What does a Power Monitoring System do?

Are your energy expenses driving you mad? Are you concerned that your energy costs are boosting up charging you more and more, over the period of time?

If you analyze your energy cost history log spreadsheets for the past few years, you’ll certainly come to the conclusion that your costs are creeping up. But how can you avoid them? Here’s how you do it.

But why not the conventional metering system?

What’s best about this instrument is that you will now be able to actually measure your power consumption in real-time. The measure has been there for a long time as large manufacturers prefer methods that are more efficient and that give them the opportunity to control and monitor their power. Using the advancements in broadband connectivity, now local business venturers will be able to apply this innovative technology.

Do you really need energy efficiency?

As the earth is on the verge of severe climate change hazard its high time that the industrial and commercial experts work together in seeking ways to invent and utilize more power-efficient energy using methods. anti-climate change protests are on the run and reforms being made on worldly forums for the countries that can save their resources for future generations and save the human race from perilous effects of pollution.

The process of making electricity involves the production of many dangerous emissions that harm the environment. This includes CO2 emissions and many solid and liquid wastes.

What we need is a way by which we can reduce our annual energy consumption and conserve more of it. Power Monitoring System being cheap, efficient, and reliable is the answer to all of it. This futuristic design is would be our modern reality in the days to come.

How does it work?

Getting an insight into how power monitoring actually works, it is a network of meters connected to the internet. In this way, the consumers are able to get real-time data on their power systems regarding their energy consumption.

All the electrical equipment in an area is connected to a meter. The meters are run by software that allows you to monitor your power systems and identify potential storage capacity. It enables the owners to keep an eye on even the millisecond shift in their power system on a continuum.

The information is made available online to the owners with the help of which they can observe their power systems in real-time and take precautionary measures to avoid any unnecessary damage before time by setting alarms and email notifications if the power systems start working outside a defined normal parameter.

Now you can proactively manage energy on your terms rather than waiting for the bill to see your costs at the concluding month. This helps you to actually watch where your energy resources are going and determine the necessary actions needed to improve your management.

The reason this kind of technology is more relevant in today’s age as it will counter and avoid the energy wastage and will guide us in using the available resources in a smart way.

So why should you use a power monitoring system?

Using a power monitoring system will ensure:

  1. Timely identification and notification of power quality troubles
  2. Increased durability of advance IT equipment
  3. Saving motors from detrimental electrical currents and surges
  4. Avoiding overheating of conductors and transformers

How to Wire a Lighting Contactor

For powering the specific area we can use the Lighting Contractors, Lighting Contractors works like a switch( which controls the electric current). Higher voltages that are fatal to humans, Lighting Contractor can be the solution to that problem because they can be controlled remotely and they are safe as they are working on lower load.

Working on electrical loads requires serious safety precautions like working on high electrical loads electrical gloves are necessary. Circuit breakers can be used to powering off the whole specific area.

Service boxes can be found near the transformer which contains the main wires and circuit breakers. To open the service box lose the screws using a screwdriver. In the service box, there are six terminals, 2 for low voltages and 4 for high voltages.

To wire, a contactor uses the low voltage terminal and to wire the circuit breaker to use the high voltage terminal.

What cause of tripping GFCI breaker?

Main causes of tripping of GFCI breaker

It is so normal for GFCI breaker to trip-off or occurrence of any other damage such as fire; while we are using heavy or so many appliances. There can be many reasons for GFCI breaker tripping, one of them is electrical system glitches. The main function of GFCI breaker is to protect electrical systems from overloads and oversupply of voltage. So the purpose of building this breaker to shut down in any of these events. Therefore in case of power surges, short circuits or any other flaw in the electrical system that can cause serious hazard will cause the breaker to trip. This can save your life and property from any hazardous incident. Main causes for tripping of GFCI breaker are,

·         Hi Ampere – A high amount of current in the circuit can be detected by a GFCI breaker and because of this tripping can occur to save from damages.

·         Faulty Breaker – Faulty breaker is another main cause of GFCI breaker tripping. Due to degradation, a breaker will not work efficiently.

·         Water- One of the main causes of GFCI breaker tripping is water. Since wetness of electrical components like plugs, naked wires or cable connectors can cause tripping of breaker.

·         Unbalanced Loads –  Due to frequently ON/OFF of several electrical appliances of variant power, breaker can be tripped.

·         Grounding – In electrical circuit, one safe wire is used, called ground wire, which draws excess current in wires. If it is not properly connected so can cause breaker to trip.

Lets call Ecocircuitbreaker.com to install your GFCI breaker

What does a definite purpose contactor do?

What are definite purpose contactors?

Let’s start with the purpose of contractors:

Connectors are the device that is used to transfer the power circuits. Moreover, you can use that device to transfer electric supply from one segment to another like u can control the direction of the air conditioning vents or use that in the heaters.

This device uses for high voltage electric devices which are commonly consuming more than 15 amperes. Moreover, contractors are designed to control the suppress the arc generates during the interruption of heavy motors.

When the electricity is passed through the electromagnet field. The electromagnetic field is generated and in the result, the central coil starts the rotation and when we cut-off the electric supply, the central coil is coming back to its rest position and open its junctions.

There are two DP contractors which are divided into two branches. Which is depending on the application:

Compact 1- and 2-pole contactors (Loading capacity 20 – 40 amperes)

That contractor is commonly used in home appliances and it’s loading capacity in AC voltages are 24V,120V and 240V.

Standard frame DP contactors (Loading capacity 15 – 360 Amperes)

That contactor is used in industrial or commercial purposes like in industrial machinery, hotels, buildings, hospitals, and factories, etc. There are commercial Air Conditions up to 500 tons. By using that DP contactor we can also control the elevators, pumps, compressors, electric motors, cranes, heavy machinery, food processing plants and many more.

Basic Construction:

A contact is a part of contactor which performs as a current carrier which includes:

1. Power contacts

2. Contacts spring

3. Auxiliary contacts

There are three basic components of contactors:

Electromagnetic:

Electromagnetic gives you the force to approaching the contacts.

Enclosure:

The enclosure is the frame which is kind of insulated (non-conductor) material like Thermosetting plastic, Nylon 6 and Bakelite which work as a non-conductor for safety measure. Moreover, we can use that enclosure to protect the contactors from oil, dust as well as from the weather conditions to enhance their life span.

Coil input:

Coil input is the kind of core contractor which might be DC or AC as per the design of the contactor. The coil may be powered by the low or high voltage as the requirement of the motor, and the contractor is handling the device separately or may be controlled by the lower coil as per program in the circuit which may control the lower and higher voltage.

What is a latching relay

Definition of Latching Relay:

Power supplies, counting systems, or many other applications use a type of electromechanical switch which is called a relay. A small amount of continuous voltage is required for most of the relays to stay on and it uses small current to control large current. A latching relay is different from the common relays, as the switch is moved using a pulse by decreasing the requirement of electric power to some extent and staying intact.

We sell many relay manufactured by Schneider electric.

Structure of Latching Relay:

The small metal chip that latching relay has can pivot between two terminals. A small magnet is attached and the switch is magnetized. Small coils of wire which are known as “solenoids” are present on both the sides of the magnet. The switch having two outputs at the terminal and input can be used to turn one circuit on and off or for the switching of power between two different circuits.

Operation of Latching Relay:

The relay is controlled by using two coils. A magnetic field is generated when the electric current flows into the coils, turning them off again. The two coils have a suspended magnetic strip subjected to their magnetic field. The switch is pushed from one side to the other when the circuit generates a pulse of electricity through the coils and it’s pushed back to the other terminal when the strip receives a magnetic pulse in the opposite direction, but until that, it stays there.

Here is how limit switch truly works

The presence and absence of an object are detected by contacting and a non-contacting sensing device which is called presence sensing. An electrical output signal is produced by the sensors through which the equipment and other processes can be controlled.

Limit switches are the type of sensors through which detection of absence and presence is done. Mechanical switches need to be mechanically activated in order to work, which means that before making contact with another object, they should have some kind of handle; arm or knob which has been mechanically or bodily activated. The contact state of the actuator changes when it is pushed to its limit resulting from the contact of the object with it.

There are many types of sensors and switches, from which some of them are given below:

·        Proximity sensors

·        Light sensors

·        Electric switches

Limit switches:

A switch that prevents the traveling of an object from some predetermined position and is mechanically operated by the object itself without any human contact is called limit switch. Some of the basic operations of limit switches are given below:

·        Sensing of absence/presence

·        Sensing range of movements

·        Sensing of travel limit and positioning

·        Breaking of a live circuit in any risky event

·        Speed detection

·        Counting & and a lot of other applications

In any commercial or industrial application, mechanical limit switches can be easily found as they provide safety and detection.

In many situations, where the detection is necessary, limit switches can be a practical solution. However, there are always advantages and disadvantages for everything and for this case, some of them are given below:

Advantages:

·        Switching of high current (up to 10A) can be easily done

·        Suitable in most of the environments

·        Practical detecting solution

·        Highly precise and accurate

·        Multiple loads can be controlled by using less electrical energy

Disadvantages:

·        In order to actuate, physical contact with the object is necessary

·        Mechanical components can become useless

The terminology of limit switches:

Pretravel:

In order to trip the contacts, the distance or angle an actuator has to cover is called pretravel.

Operating point:

Actuators position where the contact’s get in operating position

Release point:

Actuator’s position where the contact’s get back to its original place

Differential:

Distance between the snapping of contact and its original state

Overtravel:

When the actuator’s movement goes past the contact’s point of the trip.

Initial position:

The original state of actuator before applying any external force.

Operating force:

In order to move the actuating element, the force (torque) that is required is called the operating force.

Minimum return force:

Force required in order to return the actuator back in its original position

Total travel:

Maximum distance an actuating element is allowed to travel

Repeat accuracy:

After performing several operations, the ability of the switch to remain as precise as possible.

Functional parts of limit switches

Actuator:

In simple words, an actuator is a “mover” and it is the part of the switch that comes in contact with the target, physically. In some limit switches, opening and closing of electrical contacts of the switch is done by mounting the actuator to an operating head which results in rotary, linear or perpendicular motions.

Terminals/Receptacles:

It is the component that contains terminal screws which is very important for wiring purposes.

Limit switches can be of different types, but in this manual, you will get two classes of limit switches:

·        Precision switches

·        Standard industrial oil-tight

Types of limit switches

A-shape and E-shape

·        Roller level:

It is one of the most popular styles of switch operators. By rotating on an axis, the levers and roller levers actuate centrifugally. Roller levers are angled with a roller to minimize the force required for the activation of a lever and to lower the friction since comes back to its neutral state when the force is removed.

·        Adjustable roller lever:

Adjustable roller levers are available in various diameters and are similar to standard roller lever, the only difference is that their length can be adjusted anywhere between few millimeters to 5 centimeters.

B-shape

·        Rounded plunger

Plunger head comes in various varieties and sizes and is actuated by applying direct perpendicular to its end.

C-shape

·        Roller plunger

A roller plunger can be used when a plunger switch is needed but the force won’t be applied directly at 90 degrees. It also changes non-perpendicular force into perpendicular force which can help in actuating the plunger.

D-shape

·        Rod lever

Just like common levers, rod levers can be actuated radially but these rods are thin and longer in shape and can be longer than 10 centimeters.

F-shape

·        Laterally rounded plungers

It is different from the standard B-shape in which the plunger and the switch should be perpendicular to each other.

G-shape

·        Lateral roller plunger:

Just like F-shape, it is also different from C-shape where the plunger is perpendicular to the switch.

Extra operators

·        Flexible rod

In their length and appearance, they are similar to the rod lever, the only difference is that they can actuate in only one plane while flex roads activate in 360 degrees.

Cable pull:

A cable can be attached to these switches which are angled with a lanyard and pulling and tightening this cable pulls out Springloaded lever that activates the switch.

Rotative axis:

These are placed onto an axis due to which the switch actuates when the axis turns.

Latch/reset:

These switches don’t back to its neutral state when released so they have to be manually or physically released before shutting them off.

Key latch:

It is attached with a key and its operation solely depends upon that key. Once the key is removed from the keyhole, it gets activated and returning the key to the same place will shut it off. Generally, it is used in indoor jams to cut off the power when the door is opened.

Considerations while mounting

In order to work properly and accordingly, one should be fully informed about the type of switch that is going to be mounted and for this manner, some of the considerations are given below:

Cam design

Cam design is used in many conditions to operate the actuator e.g. conveyor system. It must be designed in a way that it should let the actuator move freely and not let any serious impact disturb the movement of the actuator.

Location of mounting

While installing a limit switch, one thing must be understood that they shouldn’t be installed in those areas where there’s a slight chance of disturbance caused by some other operations. They should be mounted firmly and the side where the screws are fixed should be faced outwards so that it can be repaired in any case of failure.

The switches should be installed while facing down the earth, for which the chance of leakage can be avoided on to the seals of operating head due to gravity in any case of liquid invasion.

They should be placed in such a particular angle, where the buildup on the operating head is minimum during any machining chips or debris.

Applications of limit switches:

Have you ever wondered where the limit switches are being used in real life? Some of the uses of them are given below:

·        You cannot start a microwave without shutting its door first, which is because of the limit switch.

·        When the door of the refrigerator is closed the light gets shut off due to limit switches.

·        While opening the door of a car, its dome lights come on due to limit switches

·        When the load becomes unstable in a washing machine, it stops due to limit switches.

Industries where limit switches are needed

·        Handling of different material; wrapping, moving, supplying and warehousing

·        Food and drinks packaging

·        Developing heavy equipment; machining, marine/aviation, plastics and different type of glasses.

·        Mining, filtering, processing and forming different metals

·        In several commercial applications and control cabinets.

Simple explanation for Different between Square D Limit Switches and proximity switches

In the world of today, computer system are very helpful in the controlling of the process system.  Valves automation, physically helpful to control the process system, but its look like difficult approach when we talk about the other tools, these tools helpful in the automation of the process for the user instead of valves approach. This article provide you to fill awareness on the limit and proximity switches.

The term limit switch doesn’t means to put any limit on inflatable actuator to travel, but this switch is used to indicate the occurrence of actuator on specific point or not.  If we say that “Positioning Position” is probably the more accurate term for the limit switch. A limit switch can also be called micro switch which can be define as, a switch checking the travel of an actuator in a appliance past some determined point, mechanically operated by the motion of the actuator itself , and also If the input shaft together they valve actuator. This switch can be use in wide range of applications but in Industry it is mainly used to control over travelling in Computerized Numerical control and NC machines.

we also carry watts valve actuator

If we characterized limit switches, it can be done by having the number of Poles and throws, pole and throws are the two mainly component to any switch. Pole are used to move a switch or break an electrical connection, and the connection made by the numbers of pole are called throws.  A limit switch can be describe by its two state as it would be on or off. If the switch can consist of one pole and two throws then it can be usually on or off, but in the case of two poles and throws both would be on or both would be off. These switch operate as optical indicator to valve the position or providing electrical feedback to a Digital Combat Simulator. Limit switches has reasonably priced and they are available in all of our WCB, ITT, ball, and butterfly valve offerings.

we also carry watts butterfly valve

Valve position can be set by using another technique which is known as proximity switch. The functionality of this switch as same with the limit switch, but it has different method to establish the communication position. It works while a metallic or magnetic actuator near to its sensing zone. Its sensors works underneath the electrical principle of magnetism. It contains an oscillator circuit that generates a high-frequency magnetic field. The change occurs when an actuator enter in the electromagnetic field it broadcast change to its output circuit to generate the signals. When any object movement is detected in the sensing zone of proximity switch is by-and-large the actuator type.

The sensor of the switch is very ideal because they never come with physical contact with objects, and also they are less responsive to dust, wetness and oil then the limit switches. Their internal core make good for the application who have highly vibrating power. Proximity switches are accessible in 120 VAC as well as 12-48VDC and are offered in all of our sanitary valve offerings.

Both switches assist for the same aim-to indicate valve position. Whatever method they use to achieve this aim, on the other hands, are quite altered. As limit switch is cost-effective, and the other hand proximity switches can be suitable for harsh environments. The upcoming post emphasis on other different valve automation elements, counting solenoids and positioners.

Different type of sanitary valves today like ball, butterfly are diaphragm are existing with wither limit or proximity switches. If you have any questions about how to figure out what position your valve is in, contact a Ecocircuitbreaker.com today.

Different types of SWITCH

SWITCH

In the context of networking a switch is a high speed device. Which receives data and redirects it to its destination on a local area network called (LAN). It won’t be wrong if we say switches are the traffic cops of a simple local area network. Several system designers and engineers that are seeking an essential switch products may face dilemma.

In the selection of switches, their capabilities and restrictions should be considered before making any decision. When switches are directly utilized by humans, the equation becomes even harder to understand. While implementing these switches on machinery or on others vehicles that may be wide open in critical weather conditions, temperature etc.
